Exam details & notes
Regulated by the Arkansas Department of Health Cosmetology Section (board functions transferred to ADH). Written exam is the NIC National Esthetics Theory examination (90 minutes) administered by Prov ($78/written per ADH-hosted CIBs); Prov offers remote proctoring. A separate Arkansas State Law examination is also required. ADH's aesthetician CIB cites a passing score of 70; some third-party sources say 75. Ambiguity flagged: older board materials and third-party guides still describe a hands-on practical exam (historically held bi-monthly), but ADH's current testing page lists only written CIBs via Prov — current status of the hands-on practical could not be confirmed from the official site, hence medium confidence.
Some details for Arkansas were ambiguous on the official board site when we researched this (July 2026) — double-check the specifics with the board before you rely on them.

PrepTempo's Esthetician course covers the NIC national theory core — infection control, skin sciences, skin analysis, and treatments. That's exactly what Arkansas's NIC exam tests. Study your Arkansas law-and-rules section from the board on top of the core.
