Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 28, 2026
This policy covers the PrepTempo website at preptempo.com and the PrepTempo mobile app. It is written to describe what we actually do, not what a generic template says. Where the website and the app behave differently, we say so.
PrepTempo is operated from Charleston, SC, United States. Questions about anything below go to support@preptempo.com or the contact form.
The short version
- We collect an email address so you can sign in, plus whatever study data you generate by using the product.
- We never see or store your card number. Stripe handles payment entirely.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not run third-party ads inside the product.
- The website carries two advertising measurement tags (Google Ads and Meta) so we can see which ads work. The mobile app carries no analytics, advertising, or tracking software of any kind.
- You can ask us to delete your account and its data at any time, and we will do it.
What we collect
Account information
Signing in requires an email address. You sign in either with a one-time link emailed to you or with Google — PrepTempo has no passwords, so there is no password for us to store or lose. If you sign in with Google, we receive the email address and basic profile information Google returns; we do not get access to your Google account beyond that.
On your account page you may optionally add a first name, last name, and phone number, and set notification preferences. All of that is optional and you can change or clear it yourself at any time.
Study and progress data
Using the product creates study data: which answer you chose on each practice question, whether it was right, your score on a quiz or diagnostic, your per-domain breakdown, how far you are through a chapter, and any study plan you set up (target test date, daily question target, chapters completed). This is what powers your progress screens and readiness estimates. It is tied to your account so it follows you between the website and the app.
Purchases
When you buy an exam or start a subscription we store a purchase record: which exam, which tier, the amount and currency, the Stripe checkout session ID, and — for subscriptions — the status and renewal date. We do not store card numbers, expiry dates, security codes, or billing addresses. Those go directly to Stripe on Stripe's own hosted pages.
Messages and feedback you send us
The contact form stores the name and email you enter, the topic you pick, your message, and the page you sent it from, so we can reply and reproduce bugs. Post-quiz feedback stores your rating and any comment. Feedback carries an explicit permission flag, and we publish a comment only if you affirmatively gave us permission to publish it. Joining a waitlist or claiming a discount code stores the email address (and, for a discount code, the name) you entered.
AI tutor conversations
When you use the AI tutor, your message and the recent turns of that conversation are sent to Anthropic's API — currently the Claude Haiku 4.5 model — along with the practice questions and explanations the tutor is grounded in. The reply streams straight back to your screen. We do not store the contents of tutor conversations. The only thing we keep is a per-user counter of how many tutor messages you sent on a given day, which exists solely to enforce a daily usage limit. Anthropic processes the message under its own commercial terms as our service provider.
Because those messages leave our systems, do not type anything into the tutor you would not want a third-party service to process. It is a study tool — there is no reason to give it personal, financial, or health information.
Information collected automatically
Like any website, preptempo.com is served through a host (Vercel) that processes ordinary request data such as IP address, browser type, and the page requested in order to deliver pages, prevent abuse, and diagnose errors. We do not run a general-purpose web analytics product — there is no Google Analytics, Segment, Mixpanel, PostHog, Hotjar, or session recorder anywhere on this site or in the app.
Website versus mobile app
The two share one account and one backend, but they differ in one important way.
Website
- Google Ads conversion tag and Meta Pixel are active (details below).
- Your sign-in session and unfinished quiz progress are kept in browser local storage.
- A service worker caches pages and static files so the site works offline.
- Checkout and billing happen here, on Stripe's hosted pages.
Mobile app
- No analytics, advertising, attribution, or crash-reporting software is installed. No pixels, no ad IDs, no tracking prompt — there is nothing to track with.
- Your sign-in session is stored in the device keychain / keystore, encrypted at rest.
- Quiz progress, recently viewed exams, and downloaded study content are stored on the device so you can study offline.
- The app requests no access to your camera, microphone, photos, contacts, location, or device identifiers, and sends no push notifications.
- Purchases are not made in the app. Tapping to buy opens preptempo.com in a browser, where Stripe handles the transaction.
How we use what we collect
- To sign you in and keep you signed in across the website and the app.
- To save your place, score your quizzes, and show your progress and readiness.
- To unlock the content you purchased and to honor refunds and the pass guarantee.
- To answer your support messages and fix the errors you report.
- To send service email you would expect: sign-in links, purchase confirmations, waitlist notices, and occasional study reminders. Every non-essential email has an unsubscribe link.
- To keep the service running — preventing abuse, enforcing usage limits, fixing bugs.
- To measure our own advertising on the website, as described below.
We do not sell your personal information for money. We do not rent or trade mailing lists. We do not use your quiz answers or tutor conversations to build advertising profiles, and we do not feed your data to anyone for their own marketing.
Who else touches your data
We use a small number of service providers. Each gets only what it needs to do its job, and each is bound by its own agreement with us.
- Supabase — Database and sign-in
- Stores your account record, profile fields, study progress, purchase records, support messages, and waitlist entries. Also issues the sign-in links that let you log in.
- Stripe — Payments
- Runs the hosted checkout and billing pages. You enter card details on Stripe’s pages, not ours — we never see or store a card number. Stripe returns a session ID, amount, and currency, which we save against your account.
- Vercel — Website and API hosting
- Serves the website and the API the mobile app calls. As part of delivering and protecting the service it processes ordinary request data, including IP address and browser user agent.
- Anthropic — AI tutor
- Receives the messages you type into the AI tutor, plus the practice-question material used to ground the answer, and returns the reply. Nothing else about your account is sent.
- Resend — Transactional email
- Sends purchase receipts, waitlist confirmations, study nudges, and other service email. Receives your email address and the contents of that message.
- Cloudflare — Support mailbox routing
- Forwards mail sent to support@preptempo.com to the inbox we read.
- Google (Google Ads) and Meta — Advertising measurement — website only
- Receive anonymous conversion pings from the website so we can tell which ads led to sign-ups and purchases. Covered in detail below. Neither tag exists in the mobile app.
- Apple — App distribution
- Distributes the iOS app and, if you allow it, gives us aggregate download and crash statistics under Apple’s own privacy terms. Purchases are not made through Apple — see “Payments” below.
We may also disclose information if we are legally required to, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or of PrepTempo. If PrepTempo is ever acquired or merged, your information may transfer with the business; we would tell you before your data became subject to a different privacy policy.
Advertising measurement on the website
preptempo.com loads two advertising tags: the Google Ads conversion tag and the Meta Pixel. They let us see how many people who clicked one of our ads went on to create an account, finish a diagnostic, or buy. They are how a small company knows whether its ad spend is working.
What we send them is deliberately minimal: a bare conversion event with no name, no email address, no hashed email, no order ID, and no purchase amount attached. The Meta Pixel also records a standard page view. Both tags set their own cookies in your browser (Google's conversion-linker cookie and Meta's _fbp/_fbccookies) and both platforms may combine that with information they already hold about you under their own privacy policies.
None of this exists in the mobile app. The app ships with no advertising or analytics software at all.
Some U.S. state privacy laws treat this kind of advertising cookie as “sharing” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, even though no money changes hands. You can stop it by blocking third-party cookies or using a tracking-blocking browser or extension, by adjusting your ad settings directly with Google and Meta, or by writing to us at support@preptempo.com and asking us to treat you as opted out. Using the mobile app instead of the website also avoids it entirely.
Cookies and local storage
PrepTemposets no cookies of its own. The only cookies on preptempo.com come from the two advertising tags above and, if you go to checkout, from Stripe's own pages.
The website does use your browser's local storage, which stays on your device and is never sent to an ad platform. It holds your sign-in session token, quizzes you have not finished, your study plan, and small flags that stop us from showing you the same popup or firing the same conversion twice. Clearing your browser storage signs you out and erases locally saved quiz progress; progress that already synced to your account is unaffected.
A service worker caches pages and static assets so the site keeps working offline. It caches published study pages and site files only — never your answers, scores, or account details.
The mobile app stores the equivalent information on your device: the sign-in session in the operating system's encrypted keychain, and quiz progress, recently viewed exams, and downloaded question banks in ordinary app storage. Deleting the app removes all of it.
How long we keep things
- Account, study, and purchase data: kept while your account exists, because losing it would lose your progress and your access. Deleting your account deletes these records.
- Feedback you submitted: kept, but detached from your account when the account is deleted, so it can no longer be linked back to you.
- Support messages and contact-form submissions: kept as long as we may need them to handle the issue, follow-up questions, and any related refund or guarantee claim.
- AI tutor daily counters: kept only as long as needed to enforce the daily limit. Conversation content is never stored.
- Transaction records held by Stripe: retained independently by Stripe under its own policies and applicable financial recordkeeping law, even after you delete your PrepTempo account. We cannot delete those on your behalf.
- Server logs: retained by our host for a short period for security and troubleshooting.
Security
- All traffic to the website and the API is encrypted in transit over HTTPS.
- There are no passwords to steal. Sign-in is by one-time emailed link or Google, so we never hold a password for your account.
- Database access is protected by row-level security rules, so one signed-in user cannot read another user's progress, purchases, or profile.
- Card data never reaches our servers — it goes straight to Stripe.
- On mobile, your session token is stored in the device keychain, encrypted at rest.
No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise. If we ever discover a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and any regulator we are required to notify, as promptly as the law requires.
Children and students under 18
PrepTempo is built for people preparing for professional licensing and admissions exams, and it is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If we learn that we have, we delete the account and its data. A parent or guardian who believes a child under 13 has created an account should email support@preptempo.com and we will remove it.
Some exams in our catalog — the SAT and ACT in particular — are normally taken by high school students, so we expect some users to be under 18. If you are under 18, please use PrepTempowith a parent or guardian's permission, and do not enter a phone number or any other detail your parent or guardian would not want you to share. A parent or guardian may email support@preptempo.comto review, correct, or delete their child's account and data, and we will verify the request before acting on it.
We do not sell the personal information of minors, and we do not use anyone's study data for targeted advertising. If you are studying for the SAT or ACT and would rather not encounter the website's advertising tags at all, the mobile app contains none.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to do the following, and we will honor the request:
- See what we hold. Most of it is already on your account page. Ask and we will send you the rest.
- Correct it. Name, phone, and notification preferences are editable on your account page; email us for anything else.
- Delete it. Ask us to delete your account and we will delete it along with your progress, study plans, and purchase records. This is not reversible, and it ends any active access you paid for.
- Get a copy. Request an export of your account and study data in a portable format.
- Stop the email. Use the unsubscribe link in any marketing or study-reminder email, or turn preferences off on your account page. We will still send essential messages such as sign-in links and purchase receipts.
- Opt out of advertising measurement. See the advertising section above.
Depending on where you live — for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and other U.S. states with comprehensive privacy laws, or the EEA and UK — you may also have rights to appeal a refusal, to restrict or object to certain processing, or to complain to your data protection authority. We do not discriminate against anyone for exercising a privacy right; your access to the product is unaffected.
To make any request, use the contact form or email support@preptempo.com from the address on your account. We may need to confirm you control that address before we act, and we aim to respond within a few business days and in any case within the time the applicable law allows.
International users
PrepTempo is operated from the United States, and our service providers process data in the United States and other countries where they operate. If you use PrepTempo from outside the United States, you are sending your information to the United States, where privacy laws differ from those in your country. Use the service only if that is acceptable to you.
Changes to this policy
When we change what we collect or who we share it with, we update this page and change the “Last updated” date at the top. If a change materially affects how we handle information we already hold about you, we will tell you by email or with a notice in the product before it takes effect. Continuing to use PrepTempo after a change means you accept the updated policy.
