Written NIC esthetics theory: 110 questions (100 scored), 90 minutes, minimum 75% passing; exam fee $50. Both written and practical required. Board separately administers state-specific safety/sanitation exams for niche credentials (e.g., eyelash extension specialist, blow-dry styling) but no separate esthetician state-law written exam is published. Low entry requirements: age 16+, 8th-grade education. Master instructor and instructor tiers exist; no master-esthetician tier.
