Exam details & notes

Two Oregon-specific written exams: an esthetics field-of-practice exam (drawn from Milady/Pivot Point) and a separate Oregon Laws & Rules exam — 90 minutes each; not NIC. Written exams offered in Spanish and Vietnamese with extra time available for ESL candidates. No state-run practical: the board-approved practical exam is administered by the school, and passing scores (valid 5 years) are sent to HLO. Certificates issued same day after passing and paying fees. Unusual structure: Oregon has a separate Board of Certified Advanced Estheticians for a Certified Advanced Esthetician credential (lasers/IPL, medium-depth procedures). Passing score not published on the HLO page.

Preparing for the Oregon exam

PrepTempo's Esthetician course covers the NIC national theory core — infection control, skin sciences, skin analysis, and treatments. Oregon runs its own written exam, but it covers largely the same core science and safety material, so the course is strong preparation. Study your Oregon law-and-rules section from the board on top of the core.
