Exam details & notes

Board of Cosmetology exam page states Wyoming requires 'the NIC theory and written-practical examination' — i.e., NIC theory plus NIC's written-practical format delivered at Prov testing centers statewide (practical competency assessed via CBT rather than a live hands-on model, an unusual setup worth confirming with the board). NIC theory: 110 items/100 scored, 90 min, pass 75. Minimum age 16 with 10th-grade education. Reciprocity quirk: applicants with fewer than 600 hours need 1 year of work experience, waived if they already passed the NIC written and practical exams.

Some details for Wyoming were ambiguous on the official board site when we researched this (July 2026) — double-check the specifics with the board before you rely on them.
